Aggies Roll Past Cornhuskers, 98-83, Advance to Second Round

MEMPHIS – Behind the guard trio of Wade Taylor IV, Manny Obaseki and Tyrece Radford, the Texas A&M men's basketball team rolled to a record-setting 98-83 victory over the eighth-seeded Nebraska Cornhuskers in first-round NCAA Tournament action on Friday at FedExForum.
With the victory, the ninth-seeded Aggies advanced to the second round of the NCAAs for the first time since 2018 and will face the winner of Friday's late game between top-seeded Houston and Longwood on Sunday. The Aggies improved to 21-14 on the season, while the Cornhuskers ended their season at 23-11.
Junior Wade Taylor IV connected on an NCAA Tournament school-record seven 3-pointers on his way to 25 points with five assists to lead the way, but he had plenty of help as junior Manny Obaseki and graduate Tyrece Radford chipped in 20-plus points with 22 and 20 and two more Aggies scored in double figures. Junior Jace Carter scored 13 points, including 11 in the second half, and senior Henry Coleman III had 10.
Radford, who also dished out five assists, pulled down 10 rebounds to tally the 10th NCAA Tournament double-double in school history, while sophomore Solomon Washington broke the tourney school record with four blocks.
The Aggies scorched the Huskers in the first half with an NCAA Tournament school record 58 points that bested the previous record by 16 points. They kept the pressure on the in the second half, outscoring the Huskers by a point for the final winning margin of 15 points. The 98 points were also a school record for an NCAA Tournament game, breaking the old mark of 92 points against Green Bay in 2016.
Texas A&M shot a sparkling 49.3% from the field, including a crisp 56.5 from the behind the arc as they connected on a NCAA Tournament school record 13 3-pointers. The Aggies were dominant on the glass, out-rebounding the Cornhuskers by 12, 40-28, and earning a 14-7 advantage in offensive caroms. The Aggies scored 40 points in the paints and had 16 second-chance points. The M&W gave away just eight turnovers while improving to 14-2 in games when they have nine or fewer turnovers.

WINNING WAYS -- With the victory, Aggie head coach Buzz Williams has now won an NCAA tournament game at three different schools – Texas A&M, Virginia Tech and Marquette. His career record at the NCAA Tournament improved to 11-9.
LOTS OF POINTS: Texas A&M scored the most points in a half in its NCAA tournament history with 58. The previous best was 42, done four times, most recently by the 2010 Aggies against Utah State. The 98 points scored are the most by the Aggies this season and in Texas A&M NCAA tournament history.
CAREER NIGHT: Taylor IV racked up a career-high seven threes for the most 3-pointers made by an Aggie in NCAA tournament history. Solomon Washington tabbed a career-high in blocks with four, which is also a Texas A&M tournament record.
