Cernousek Leads Aggies to Runner-Up Finish at Clemson Invitational
Mar 24, 2024 | Women's Golf
SUNSET, S.C. – The No. 19 Texas A&M women's golf team finished runner-up behind the fifth top-10 performance of the year from Adela Cernousek, who finished 8-under 208 on Sunday at the Clemson Invitational on The Reserve at Lake Keowee.
"We battled all the way through and finished strong," head coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "We took another step forward this week. We didn't have our best but fought until the end. We are heading in the right direction at the right time of the year. Fortunately have some time to rest before SECs."
Cernousek claimed second place on the individual leaderboard and shot 2-under 70 in the third round. The junior is now boasting a staggering 70.21 stroke average, which is on pace to shatter the current program record of 71.24 held by Maddie Szeryk (2016-17).
The Aggies finished second for the second-straight tournament after shooting 6-under 858 thru 54 holes. No. 23 Vanderbilt (-12) won the invitational, but A&M defeated teams such as No. 5 LSU (-3), No. 13 Ole Miss (+10) and No. 20 Clemson (E).
Blanca Fernández García-Poggio and sister Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio finished tied for 16th and 19th, respectively. Blanca shot even-par in every round while Cayetana went 1-over 217.
Jennie Park locked in a share of 51st and birdied two of the last three holes to secure the runner-up outing for the team, while Zoe Slaughter tied for 58th to round out the lineup.
