Aggies Win Three Events on Opening day of Battle on the Bayou

BATON ROUGE – The Texas A&M track & field team won three events on the opening day of the Battle on the Bayou Friday at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
Heather Abadie's undefeated start to the outdoor season continued, as she won the women's pole vault with a clearance of 4.35m/14-3.25 which tied her own program record. The mark also ranks her second in the nation for the outdoor season. Jack Mann III led the men with a third-place finish as he soared over 5.30m/17-4.5.
Continuing the hot start was Camryn Dickson in the women's 200m. The sophomore ran the top time in the first heat which stood throughout the entire event, crossing the line in 22.93 which ranks No. 3 in the nation so far during the outdoor season.
The Aggie javelin groups put on a show on the opening day of the meet. Lianna Davidson claimed her second win of the season with a meet record throw of 54.69m/179-5. Katelyn Fairchild finished right behind in second with mark of 52.59/172-6, while her sister McKenzie Fairchild placed fifth with a personal best toss of 50.01m/164-1. On the men's side, the Maroon & White claimed a 3-5 finish, as Joshua Mather ranked third throwing 68.70m/225-4 and Julian Stoicoviciu hit a mark of 63.31m/207-8 for fifth.
The 400m hurdle groups all claimed top-10 finishes. Ja'Qualon Scott finished fourth in the men's event in 50.68 while Kirk Collins Jr. was close behind in 10th with a time of 52.48. Nissi Kabongo added a fifth-place result in the women's event clocking a time of 57.49.
Stanford Invitational
The Aggies were ready for action in Palo Alto at the Stanford Invitational, as Kennady Fontenot got the squad underway in the women's 5000m. The sophomore ran an impressive time of 16:26.91 to place fourth in the event, the mark also propelled her to No. 5 on the all-time performers list.
Victor Kibiego made his season debut in the 3000m steeplechase and crossed the line 8:45.91. This time entered him in the record books at No. 3 and placed him at ninth in the event.
Cooper Cawthra lowered his time in the 1500m which stood at No. 2 on the all-time list, finishing the event in 3:42.58 making it the second-fastest performance in school history.
Eric Casarez, Madison Brown and Jonathan Chung are still slated to compete and fans can follow the action through Stanford's website.
