May 03, 2024 | Softball
GAINESVILLE – The No. 8 Texas A&M softball team dropped the series opener to No. 9 Florida, 2-1, Friday night at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.
Texas A&M (39-10, 15-7 SEC) struck first after Trinity Cannon walked and later scored after Allie Enright drove in her 41st RBI of the season to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
Aggie starter Emiley Kennedy tossed 4.1 hitless innings before Florida (41-12, 15-7 SEC) strung together four consecutive hits, including an RBI double and a sac fly as the Aggies trailed 2-1 at the end of the fifth.
Down to the final three outs, the Aggies found a glimmer of hope after Enright lined a one-out double, her 10th double of the season. The Gators spoiled any chance at a comeback with a strikeout and foul out to end the game.
Kennedy was saddled with her eighth loss of the season totaling 6.0 innings and striking out three, while yielding seven walks and four hits. The junior became the program's individual season strikeout leader in SEC play with 81, passing Mel Dumezich (2013).
