Cernousek Falls in Quarterfinals of U.S. Women’s Amateur
Aug 09, 2024 | Women's Golf
TULSA, Okla. – Texas A&M's Adela Cernousek fell to Asterisk Talley, 1-up, in the quarterfinals of the 124th U.S. Women's Amateur at the Southern Hills Country Club.
Cernousek took an early lead on Talley, going up one thru three holes. However, the elite junior golfer won four of the next six holes to carry a three-hole advantage into No. 12. The reigning NCAA Individual Champion made a furious push with wins on 12 and 13 and threatened to even the match several times leading up to the final hole.
The All-American needed to win on 18 to push the bout to extra holes, as she did in the round of 16. Her approach on the par-4, No. 18 landed on the lower shelf of the green 40+ feet from the hole, while Talley was lying three just off the back of the putting surface. The Antibes, France, native hit a beautiful putt that just missed the hole and was in for par. Talley matched with a two-putt from the fringe, holding off the Aggie comeback.
Cernousek is fresh off a three month stretch where she won the first NCAA Individual Championship in program history, competed in three LPGA events and played for Team International at the 2024 Arnold Palmer Cup. The Maroon & White will start the season at the Carmel Cup at the historic Pebble Beach Golf Links Aug. 30-Sept. 1.
