MADISON – The Texas A&M volleyball team concludes its preseason schedule with a pair of matches in Wisconsin, as the Aggies face the No. 7 Badgers Saturday followed by Troy Sunday at the UW Field House with first serves set for 7 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
The Maroon & White secured their best start to a campaign since the 2011 season, after downing UNI (3-1) for their eighth-straight win behind a balanced offensive and defensive showing.
Four Aggies recorded double-digit kills versus the Panthers, which marks the second time the team has done so this season. Logan Lednicky led the group with 20, followed by Emily Hellmuth (16), Taylor Humphrey (10) and Ifenna Cos-Okpalla (10).
The reigning SEC Player of the Week, Cos-Okpalla, was a force at the net versus the Panthers blocking a season-best nine swings which helped her surpass 250 total blocks in her career. The Flower Mound, Texas native ranks fourth in the country in blocks per set, averaging 1.64 a frame.
A&M stands out nationally, as it leads the country in assists per set (14.21) and kills per set (15.07), while also ranking 11th in hitting percentage (.291) and 20th in opponent hitting percentage (.144).
Maddie Waak continues to pace the nation in assists per set, averaging 11.82 a frame. She added 47 to her season in total in her last match, marking her third time this season surpassing 40 assists.
The Aggies have faced Wisconsin eight times in their history, with the Badgers holding a 6-2 record in the fixtures. A&M secured its last win versus Wisconsin in the 2003 season, where the Maroon & White swept the Badgers (3-0).
Wisconsin started the year 0-3 but have since won four-straight, including their last-two matches at home. The Badgers have bested the Maroon & White in all matches played in Madison, holding a 4-0 record.
The following day, A&M faces Troy for the first time in program history. The Trojans enter the match winning three straight, while holding a 5-3 record prior to playing Wisconsin Friday night. Troy has a 1-1 record when playing in a neutral environment this season, while the Aggies have a lone victory over McNeese (3-1) on a level playing field earlier in the year.
