Sep 06, 2024 | Volleyball
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M volleyball team won its fourth-straight match to start the season behind Logan Lednicky's 19 kills in its sweep of Texas State Friday evening at Reed Arena, 3-0 (25-13, 26-24, 25-19).
Texas A&M (4-0) had another efficient night as it hit over .300 percent as a team for the third time this season in its sweep over Texas State (3-2). Lednicky continued to put the nation on notice, leading from the front as she matched her season high with 19 kills on 28 swings and only five errors to hit .500 for the second time this year.
It was all Aggies at the start of the match, as they raced out to an early advantage behind Lednicky's four kills, forcing Texas State's first timeout (11-5). The Maroon & White didn't give an inch, as they built on their lead prompting the Wildcats to call their second break of the set (17-7). The push continued, and capping off her standout opening frame was Lednicky with her seventh kill to take the advantage in the match (25-13), 1-0.
Back-and-forth volleyball kickstarted the second set, with Texas State edging out a narrow lead as head coach Jamie Morrison called his first timeout of the match (13-8). The Wildcats held their advantage late, but a kill and block from Lednicky tied the squads at 22. The teams traded points and went into extras, however an error from Texas State and a kill from Taylor Humphrey doubled A&M's lead (26-24), 2-0.
Looking to secure their third sweep of the year, the Aggies applied the pressure in the close-out set with a 15-7 run to the media timeout. The Wildcats countered with a streak of their own, narrowing the gap late (21-17), but the Maroon & White steadied the ship as Lednicky clinched the victory with a kill (25-19) for A&M's fourth straight win, 3-0.
COACH'S QUOTES
Head coach Jamie Morrison on the 12th Man …
"There were so many times when I looked over to the stands and saw not only the student section, but all the fans being active in what was going on. This is a fun atmosphere, and it is starting to become what I envisioned when I took the job here."
PLAYER'S QUOTES
Junior OPP Logan Lednicky on tonight's match …
"It was a really good win. We faced them in the spring, which was a tougher match for us. We continue to get better as a group and it showed again today."
Junior S Maddie Waak on playing in front of the 12th Man …
"Packing Reed was really cool. I've only played here once before this, and this experience was even better. It just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Its only my second game playing at home for A&M, but I have played against them (A&M) before, and the crowd at Reed is unbeatable. When you put that many people in the stands, it becomes a hard place to play."
