Aggies Log 8-2 Mark on Day Two of Weinman Foundation Invitational

HONOLULU – The No. 2 Texas A&M women's tennis team had another successful day in the Weinman Foundation Invitational at UH Tennis Complex, posting an 8-2 record, including 6-1 in singles action.
 
Through two days, the Aggies own a 17-3 record at the event, including 13-1 in singles play.
 
Lucciana Perez scored a ranked win in singles action, toppling No. 37 Grace Piper of USC, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
 
Lexington Reed also needed three sets to top Hawaii's Sheena Masuda 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.
 
The other four A&M singles victories came in straight sets. Mia Kupres, Jeanette Mireles and No. 102 Daria Smetannikov all topped Hawaii opponents. Kupres beat Nikola Homolkova and Mireles triumphed over Hannah Galindo by identical 6-2, 6-1 scores. Smetannikov won a 6-1, 6-2 decision against Emma Forgac. No. 15 Nicole Khirin registered the final A&M singles win, 6-2, 6-3 against USC's Jana Hossam.
 
Lizanne Boyer suffered the lone singles defeat, dropping a 6-4, 6-3 decision against Hawaii's Makeilah Nepomuceno.
 
In doubles play, Kupres and Smetannikov bested Parker Fry and Maia Sung of USC, 6-2. Reed and Perez beat Forgac and Joelle Lanz of Hawaii, 6-2.
 
Khirin and Mireles were on the losing end of a 6-3 score against Peppi Ramstedt and Masuda.
 
In doubles exhibition match, Boyer teamed up with USC's Simone Kay to beat Allaire Berl and Jazlyn Miyamura of Hawaii, 6-2.

Texas A&M continues action at the invitational Friday starting with doubles play at 2 p.m.
