LUBBOCK – Texas A&M's Aleksandr Solovev extended his national lead in the men's pole vault with a school-record showing on the opening day of the Corky Classic Friday evening at the Sports Performance Center.

A&M had an impressive opening day at the Corky Classic, as the team claimed an event win, a school record, six top-three results, two top-12 marks in Aggie history and seven personal-best performances.

Solovev highlighted the day, as he downed the men's pole vault school record held by A&M Olympian Jacob Wooten with a clearance of 5.74m/18-10. The Moscow, Russia, native claimed the second-straight title to start his collegiate career, while also extending his national-leading mark.

Jermaisha Arnold had a standout showing in the women's 400m, finishing second in an impressive 52.05 which ranks No. 3 in the country this season. Latasha Smith also recorded a top-five finish, as she crossed the line in 53.48. On the men's side of the 400m, Hossam Hatib recorded a second-place result in his Aggie debut with a mark of 46.34.

The men's 800m group had a productive day, as they recorded four finishers in the top eight of the event. Kimar Farquharson paced the group, placing second in 1:47.98, that time ranks No. 2 in the country so far this season. Caden Norris logged a fourth-place result in 1:49.49, while Cooper Cawthra placed seventh in a personal best time of 1:49.96 and Grant Ashby rounded out the group in eighth also with a personal-best mark of 1:51.80.

John Baker led the men's long jump group on the day, placing third with a leap of 7.52m/24-8.25. He was followed by Khybah Dawson in fifth (7.34m/24-1) and Mason Mangum in sixth (7.30m/23-11.5).

Heather Abadie claimed the final top-three finish of the day in the women's pole vault, as the senior cleared a season-best bar of 4.21m/13-9.75 to place third.

Blake Harris ensured his entry into the A&M record books in the men's 60m hurdles semifinals with a personal-best time of 7.85 to debut at No. 8 in the all-time list.

The Maroon & White had three athletes reach semifinals in the 60m, with DeVante Mount and Ernest Campbell qualifying on the men's side, while Bria Bullard advanced in the women's event.
