MADRID – Former Texas A&M standout Ásdís Halldórsdóttir signed a professional contract with Madrid CFF, the club recently announced.
Madrid Club de Futbol Femenino plays in Liga F, the highest level of league competition for soccer in Spain.
"All of us in Aggieland are happy for Ásdís," Texas A&M head coach G Guerrieri said. "She is a truly nice person with a footballer's brain and has used her ferocious inner drive to continue to grow and improve since matriculating from Texas A&M and through several European professional leagues. Playing in Liga F is a great opportunity for her and we're excited to see her compete at this level."
She made her debut with the squad Saturday in Madrid's 1-1 draw against Valencia, playing 11 minutes off the bench.
Since leaving Aggieland during the days of COVID shutdown, Halldórsdóttir has spent much of her professional career playing in her homeland Iceland. She played four years with Valur in Reykjavik before moving to in Norway last year.
The Reykjavik native finished her career with 45 Aggie caps, including 34 starts. She compiled 24 career points with eight goals and eight assists, including three game-winning goals. She garnered SEC All-Freshman Team recognition following a rookie campaign in which she tallied four goals and five assists.
Last October Halldórsdóttir earned her first career international cap with the Iceland women's national team, playing in a match against the United States in Austin.
