BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M's Theo Papamalamis earned SEC Co-Freshman of the Week honors on Wednesday for his strong play in wins over UCLA and Harvard during the ITA Kickoff Weekend last week. He shared the award with Texas' Timo Legout.

It was the first SEC weekly honor of Papamalamis' career. The freshman from Lessy, France claimed his first ranked win of his collegiate career against No. 13 Spencer Johnson of UCLA in a straight-set sweep, 6-3, 6-1, that gave the Aggies the upper hand early in singles play.

In the second match of the weekend, Papamalamis was the deciding factor for the Aggies. He was the last man standing on court 1 against Danny Milavsky of host team Harvard. After a back-and-forth first two sets, Papamalamis went unanswered in the last set to clinch the match, 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-0, extending his undefeated singles streak.

The freshman's win propelled the Aggies to the ITA National Indoor Championships which will be contested Feb. 14-18 at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex on SMU's campus in Dallas.
