GILBERT, Ariz. – The No. 2 Texas A&M women's tennis team drew host Illinois as its opponent for the opening round of this week's ITA National Indoor Team Championship.

The opening round match is 6:30 p.m. Friday at Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana, Illinois.

The Maroon & White have faced Illinois on three occasions with the Fighting Illini owning a 2-1 advantage. They last played in 2020 with the Aggies winning 4-1 at Mitchell Tennis Center.

Texas A&M is 5-0 on the season and earned a spot in the field by making quick work of South Florida and TCU at the ITA Kickoff Weekend with two 4-0 victories.

The road to winning their first ITA Indoors title would include a second-round match against Oklahoma State or Texas. LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma and UCLA are also on Texas A&M's side of the 16-team bracket. Teams advancing through the first two rounds head to Evanston, Illinois, for the semifinal and championship rounds next Monday and Tuesday.

Illinois claimed an automatic spot in the ITA Indoors as tournament co-host. The Illini are 2-2 on the season with wins against Northwestern (4-2) and Colorado (4-2) and losses against Notre Dame (4-2) and Georgia Tech (4-3).

The Aggies are coming off their best season in program history, which saw them take home their first ever national championship and a third-consecutive SEC title, finishing the year 28-7.
