TEMPE, Ariz. – The No. 14 Texas A&M men's tennis team drew a familiar foe in No. 3 Texas for the opening round of the ITA National Indoor Team Championship, which will be contested at 12 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15 at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex on SMU's campus.
Â
This will be the first meeting of the two teams since the Longhorns followed the Aggies to the SEC, but the two teams were longtime conference rivals in the Southwest and Big 12 Conferences. The teams played as recently as last season when the Longhorns knocked off the Aggies in the NCAA Super Regional in Austin.
Â
Texas A&M is 3-2 this season and is looking to rebound from its two-game losing streak. After securing two tough-fought 4-3 victories over UCLA and host site Harvard to qualify for Indoors, the Aggies have been looking to get back into the win column after road losses to Pepperdine and Ohio State. Â
Â
Texas (7-1) secured its spot in this weekend's tournament after claiming two 4-0 wins against Rice and Georgia Tech. The Longhorns only loss of the season is from No. 5 Virginia, 4-3.
Â
Depending on the results of Friday's match, the Maroon & White could either advance to the quarterfinals or move into the consolation bracket. Other opponents at the Dallas site are Kentucky, Michigan, NC State, Virginia, Wake Forest, and the host, SMU.
