BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M outfielder Terrence Kiel II has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.
Â
The rookie, who started all three games in right field, helped lead the Aggies to a series sweep over Elon after topping the squad with a .500 batting average. Kiel reached base safely twice in his first career game in the Maroon & White and followed that performance with a pair of hits and two RBI on Saturday. In Sunday's finale, the Atlanta, Ga., native reached base safely in all three plate appearances, finishing 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored.
Â
Kiel totaled three RBI, three runs scored, three walks, four hits and also swiped a base on the weekend. The freshman was also the lone Aggie to record a pair of multi-hit games in the series.
Â
Texas A&M remains home at Blue Bell Park for a midweek contest against McNeese Tuesday at 6 p.m.
