Perez Named SEC Player of the Week

Texas A&M softball's Mya Perez has been named the SEC Co-Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.

BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M softball's Mya Perez has been named the SEC Co-Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
 
Perez went 9-for-17, including three home runs, one double and 11 RBI, while walking four times and striking out only twice finishing the weekend with a 1.754 OPS. The sophomore started the JoAnne Graf Classic strong at the dish hitting 5-for-7 with two home runs and seven RBI in a double header sweep of Florida A&M. Perez continued to play at a high level going 3-for-7 in a twin bill sweep of No. 8 Florida State, including another round tripper and double. Between the two games she drove in three runs and scored twice. In the weekend finale, she hit 1-for-3 with an RBI in a 3-2 win over Southeastern Louisiana.
 
A native of Corona, Calif, Perez has started every game this season at first base and has reached base safely in all but one game this year. Perez leads the Aggies in hits (20), home runs (4), RBI (27) and slugging percentage (.778).
 
The weekly accolade is a career first for Perez and it's the first for Texas A&M this season.
