LAS VEGAS – The No. 26 Texas A&M men's golf team continues its spring journey in the 2024-25 campaign, heading to Nevada for the talent-laden Southern Highlands Collegiate.
A strong lineup of 15-teams tackle the famed Southern Highlands Golf Club. The field includes a notable west coast presence with teams from the SEC, Big 12, ACC, Pac-12, Mountain West, and West Coast Conference. The field includes 11 teams ranked in the top 30.
Texas A&M trots out a formidable lineup headlined by Golf Channel Preseason All-American Phichaskn Maichon who enters the fray slotted No. 12th in the PGA TOUR University rankings. He is joined by Wheaton Ennis, Aaron Pounds, Michael Heidelbaugh and Jaime Montojo in the starting five.
The Aggies are heading to Las Vegas for the third consecutive season looking to build on their early spring success. In their last outing at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Hawaii, they finished tied for fifth with a 3-under 837. With two back-to-back tournaments already under their belt, the Aggies are aiming to make a strong impression in Vegas. Texas A&M has a history of success in this event, with Anthony Rodriguez claiming the program's lone individual title in 1994. The team's best finishes came in 2011 (second) and 2010 (third), and they'll be looking to add another standout performance this year.
Played under various formats and names since 1974, the Southern Highlands Collegiate has consistently featured loads of talent. Jay Don Blake, Stewart Cink (1992), David Duval (1992), Ed Fryatt (1993), David Gossett (1999), Billy Mayfair (1987), Ryan Moore (2003), Phil Michelson (1989 & 91) and Camilo Villegas (2002) are all former winners who went on to enjoy PGA Tour success.
