Lessentine Named SEC Freshman of the Week

Texas A&M softball's Sydney Lessentine has been named the SEC Co-Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.

BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M softball's Sydney Lessentine has been named the SEC Co-Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.

Lessentine threw her first career no-hitter and became the first Aggie freshman since 2008 to accomplish the feat. The rookie recorded double-digit strikeouts for the second time in her career fanning 11 of the 16 batters she faced, including a stretch of eight consecutive punchouts. Lessentine's lone flaw came when she hit the third batter in the opening frame.

A native of Alamogordo, N.M., Lessentine leads the Aggies this season in ERA (0.91), shutouts (2), strikeouts (42), batting average against (.092) and WHIP (0.565).

The weekly accolade is a career first for Lessentine and it's the second team honor in as many weeks after Mya Perez earned SEC Co-Player of the Week on Feb. 24.
