SAN ANTONIO – The Texas A&M track & field team won four events on the opening day of the UTSA Invitational Friday at the Park West Athletic Complex.

Kicking off the outdoor campaign on the front foot, the Aggies tallied four titles on the first day of the meet as well as one all-time mark in the A&M history books and a pair of personal-best performances. Â
McKenzie Fairchild highlighted the opening day in the field for the Maroon & White, as she claimed her first victory of the year with a mark of 48.05m/157-8 in the javelin. A&M also secured another pair of top-five finishes, as Ana De La Garza placed third with a toss of 43.47m/142-7 and Madison Murray was right behind in fourth with a personal-best throw of 40.58m/133-2. On the men's side, Thomas Jackman opened his collegiate career with mark of 59.66/195-9 which was good for fifth.

Carrying the success to the track, the Aggies swept the top-two spots in both the men's and women's 5,000m. Penelope Gracey led the way for the women, crossing the line in 17:17.40 and she was followed by Nicole Chastain with a time of 17:29.01. Aiden Gonzalez-Rodiles followed suit with his first title of the outdoor season logging a mark of 14:58.34, while Noah Willows was second in 14:59.06.

The 3,000m steeplechase group held the momentum, as Staucie Lees won the first event of her collegiate career with a mark of 10:54.42 which debuted her in the A&M all-time performers list at No. 11. Austin Owen also finished second in the women's event with a time of 11:02.98, while Hunter Jackson also logged second in the men's event in 9:30.32.

The Aggies added another pair of top-10 results in the women's long jump. Madison Murray claimed her second top-five result of the day, placing fifth with a wind-aided mark of 5.93m/19-5.5, while Victoria Kadiri logged ninth with an aided jump of 5.82m/19-1.25.

Carlie Weiser also had another standout day for the throws group, recording a toss of 15.18m/50-1.5 to place third in the shot put.
