Aggies Win Three Events on Opening Day of 44 Farms Team Invitational

The Texas A&M Track & Field team won three events of the opening day of the 44 Farms Team Invitational Friday at E.B. Cushing Stadium.

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M Track & Field team won three events of the opening day of the 44 Farms Team Invitational Friday at E.B. Cushing Stadium.
 
In their first outdoor home meet of the season, the Aggies put on a show for the 12th Man claiming three events wins, one all-time mark and downed 12 personal bests.
 
Auhmad Robinson highlighted the men's 200m, winning the event with a time of 20.21. The senior's mark was an all-conditions best and ranks third in the NCAA this year. The Aggies also landed two more top-ten finishes, as Cutler Zamzow placed fifth in a wind-aided best of 20.73 while Blake Holland secured ninth in 20.80. On the women's side, Kennedy Wade also recorded a ninth-place result, clocking 23.54.
 
Elise Smoot kept up the winning ways on the track, finishing first in the women's 1500m after bringing it home down the Cushing straight in 4.22.37 which moved her up to No. 6 on the all-time performers list. A&M also bagged four more of the top-eight spots, including Megan Roberts in third (4:26.17), Avery Perkins in fifth (4:26.90), Emma Little in sixth (4:26.90) and Kennady Fontenot in eighth (4:28.84). On the men's side, Jack Johnston also secured a podium finish crossing the line in third with a career-best time of 3:52.49.
 
Adding the third title of the day was Penelope Gracey in the 5,000m, as she logged a time of 16:57.46 which downed her previous personal best. Nicole Chastain also took sixth in the event with a mark of 17:29.30. In the men's event, the Marron & White secured four of the top-eight finishes, as Aiden Gonzalez-Rodiles clocked a career-best 14:30.89 for fifth. Carter Gordy, Noah Willows and Hunter Jackson followed in sixth (14:30.89), seventh (14:37.28) and eighth (14:39.73), respectively.
 
Sofia Yakushina wrapped up an impressive opening day of the women's heptathlon in third with 3,634 points. The freshman started her campaign on the track in the 100m hurdles, finishing with a personal-best time of 13.51. Moving to the field, she recorded fifth and ninth in the high jump (1.74m/ 5-8.5) and shot put (11.85/38-10.5), respectively. Concluding her day on top, Yakushina won the 200m after crossing the line with a career-best mark of 23.48.
 
Highlighting the field events was Khybah Dawson in the long jump, as the reigning SEC indoor bronze medalist logged his outdoor season-best mark of 7.70m/25-3.25 to finish third. Mason Mangum also claimed eighth in the long jump, leaping 7.34m/24-1. Other standouts in the field included Riley Floerke in the women's open pole vault, as the senior cleared a season-best bar of 4.01m/13-1.75, while Carlie Weiser took seventh in the women's shot put with a toss of 15.94m/52-3.75.
