BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M first baseman Blake Binderup has been named the SEC Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Â
The weekly honor marks the first of the redshirt sophomore's career and the first by an Aggie this season.
Â
Binderup recorded a team-high .538 average to go along with a stolen base, two doubles, two home runs and 10 RBI to help the Aggies extend their winning streak to a season-high six games. The redshirt sophomore registered a hit in all four games, including a pair of multi-hit performances in Texas A&M's sweep of South Carolina. The Aggie first baseman also recorded an RBI in all four contests, including a career-high tying five in Friday's series opener.Â
Â
With the Maroon & White trailing 3-2 in the series opener, Binderup ripped his second grand slam of the season to give Texas A&M a 6-3 advantage. In the series finale, the redshirt sophomore reached base safely in all six plate appearances and delivered a key two-out, two-run homer in the Aggies' historic comeback win. Â
Â
Binderup also logged a .588 on-base percentage and an SEC-best 1.154 slugging percentage on the week.
Â
Texas A&M remains home at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park for a midweek contest against Tarleton on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
