BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M center fielder Jace LaViolette has been named the SEC Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Â
The weekly honor marks the second straight for the Aggies and the first of the year for the junior.
Â
LaViolette bashed five homers, scored 10 times and plated 11 runs to help power Texas A&M to a 3-1 week, which included a road series win at No. 2 Arkansas. The junior slashed .412/.524/1.294 and homered in all four games, matching a career high. LaViolette also recorded a multi-hit game in three of the four contests and drove in multiple runs in all four games.
Â
On the weekend, LaViolette totaled four homers and seven RBI as the Maroon & White picked up their first series win in Fayetteville since 2016. In the finale against the Razorbacks, LaViolette opened the scoring with a solo homer in the first and later put Texas A&M back in front for good with a go-ahead two-out, two-run opposite field homer to left. The multi-homer game marked the third of the season for the junior and 13th of his career.
Â
LaViolette and the Aggies, who have won nine of their last 10, return home to Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park for a midweek contest against Sam Houston Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
