BELLEVILLE, Ill. – Texas A&M's Lauren Nguyen qualified for the 80th U.S. Women's Open Monday after coming in second at the St. Clair Country Club Monday.

The local qualifier featured 78 golfers with only two spots available for the amateurs to earn a spot at the U.S. Open. The Katy, Texas, native fired a 2-over 144 at the par-71 course thru two rounds.

The redshirt junior shot 1-over 72 in both rounds on the 36-hole day Monday. Nguyen's tournament was highlighted by an eagle on the par-4 No. 5 that ultimately helped her secure the invitation.

The U.S. Open will be played at Erin Hills in Erin, Wisconsin, May 29-June 1. This will be the first LPGA Tour event for Nguyen during her collegiate career.

Nguyen has helped the Texas A&M women's golf team to a No. 19 national ranking and the four seed at the upcoming NCAA Lubbock Regional. The regional will take place May 5-7 at the Rawls Course. The team will need to finish within the top five at the regional in order to advance to the NCAA Championships for the fourth-straight year.
