INDIANAPOLIS – Texas A&M Athletics registered a record-tying 987 multi-year Academic Progress Rate behind the efforts of perfect multi-year ratings from four programs, the NCAA announced Tuesday.
Â
"This is another incredible accomplishment to an already historic academic year," Director of Athletics Trev Alberts said. "The APR takes into account a number of different factors over the last several years, so to see our department continue to trend positively makes me very proud. This showcases a culture that values academics and I want to congratulate not only our student-athletes, but all of our staff members as well that make this possible."
Â
The rating takes into account data from the 2020-21 to the 2023-24 academic years. The Academic Progress Rate measures the eligibility, retention and graduation of student-athletes competing on every Division I sports team.
Â
It also serves as a predictor of graduation success. The NCAA's Division I Board of Directors set cut scores of 930 (out of 1,000) as a threshold for teams to meet or face possible immediate and historical sanctions. An APR of 930 translates to approximately a 50 percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR).
Â
The Aggies were led by men's and women's cross country, women's golf and volleyball who posted perfect multi-year APRs. Additionally, women's basketball, soccer, softball, women's swimming & diving, women's tennis and women's track & field locked in 990-or-better multi-year scores.
Â
During the four-year period, 14 teams registered at least one 1,000 single-year rating with 12 programs accomplishing the feat two-or-more times. The record multi-year APR of 987 matched last year's multi-year score.
