BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M left-hander Justin Lamkin has been tabbed the SEC Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday morning.
Â
The weekly honor marks the first of the season for the Aggies and the second of the lefty's career.
Â
Lamkin struck out a career-high 15 batters on 121 pitches and limited No. 10 Georgia to only three hits en route to his first career complete game shutout Friday night. The left-hander, who did not yield a walk, retired the final 16 batters he faced en route to becoming the first Texas A&M pitcher to record a complete game shutout on the road since Michael Wacha in 2012. The junior also did not allow a single three-ball count on the night.Â
Â
Lamkin's 15 strikeouts were the most by an Aggie since Bryce Miller recorded the same total against New Mexico State in 2021. The junior's strikeout total was also the most by a Texas A&M pitcher in an SEC contest.
Â
The left-hander's performance marked his team-leading seventh quality start of the season and the Aggies' fourth shutout of the year.
Â
The Maroon & White return to action Tuesday night as they face off against Mississippi State in the opening round of the SEC Tournament. First pitch is slated for approximately 8 p.m.
