The Texas A&M baseball team saw its run at the SEC Tournament come to an end as they fell to No. 1 LSU, 4-3, in the quarterfinals Friday evening at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.

HOOVER – The Texas A&M baseball team saw its run at the SEC Tournament come to an end as they fell to No. 1 LSU, 4-3, in the quarterfinals Friday evening at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.

The Tigers (43-13) struck first with a pair of runs in the opening frame behind an RBI double and an RBI groundout. LSU later added to its advantage, 4-0, in the third with a two-run homer to left center.

In the fourth, the Aggies (30-26) trimmed the deficit in half courtesy of an RBI single from Jace LaViolette and a sacrifice fly from Gavin Kash.

LaViolette pulled the Maroon & White to within one, 4-3, in the sixth with a sacrifice fly to right that plated Kaeden Kent, who led off the frame with a double.

In the seventh, Kash led off the inning with a triple and later appeared to score on an infield single but a runner's interference call wiped out the potential tying run.

Texas A&M looked to even the score once again in the ninth as they put runners on the corners with two outs but a fielder's choice ended the threat and the contest.

Starter Myles Patton (3-5) suffered the loss after allowing four runs, two earned, over 4 2/3 innings of work. Clayton Freshcorn shined in relief as the sophomore struck out five over 3 1/3 perfect frames.
