BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M soccer team plays its final tune-up Saturday when the Aggies host the UTRGV Vaqueros for a 7:30 p.m. match on Ellis Field.
Admission to the match is free. For the exhibition only, fans are invited to bring in their own food and beverages. With the exception of bottled water for purchase, concessions will not be available.
The Aggies enjoyed a successful debut Tuesday when they bested the Rice Owls 4-0 in their first exhibition match. Texas A&M capitalized on goals by Taylor Jernigan, Bailey Cate, Savannah Hutchins and Leah Pirro. The Aggies' backline held Rice to one shot-on-goal in the shutout.
The Maroon & White return 10 letterwinners from last year, highlighted by starting goalkeeper Sydney Fuller who earned SEC Freshman of the Week on two occasions in 2024.
The new-look Aggies welcome 10 transfers this offseason, including All-Mountain West Conference midfielder Trinity Buchanan, Southland Conference Goalkeeper of the Year Erica Defferding, and All-AAC forward Leah Diaz, All-Big West First Team forward Kaylee Noble and West Coast Conference All-Freshman defender Isabella Yakel.
Texas A&M is excited with the addition of five talented freshmen, including Cate, Riley Crooks, Lucy Landherr, Tessa Lavender and Holly Storer. Redshirt freshmen Emma Hoang and Mary Claire Torn are also expected to make contributions after missing their rookie campaigns due to injury.
UTRGV posted a 7-7-5 mark last season, including 3-3-4 in the Western Athletic Conference. The Vaqueros welcome back their top six scorers from a year ago, including Savannah Frisby (7 g, 1 a, 15 pts), Linnea Eld (4 g, 1 a, 9 pts) and Lisa Elowsson (3 g, 1 a, 7 pts). Rosie Train had a team-high six assists while Abbie Bailey and Jordan Matthews logged three goals apiece.
