Robinson’s School Record Highlights Aggies’ Dominant Showing in Season Opener

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Auhmad Robinson's school-record in the men's 300m highlighted the Aggies' 12 event wins at the McFerrin-12 Degree Invitational Friday at the R.A. 'Murray' Fasken '38 Indoor Track & Field facility.
The Maroon & White put on a show for the 2,000 fans in attendance for their season-opening meet, as they won 12 events, broke one school record, logged nine top-12 marks in Aggie history and recorded 16 personal bests on the day.
Robinson put the nation on notice in his first action of the 2025 season, as he dominated the men's 300m. The junior ran in the final heat of the event, running away from the competition with a time of 32.34 which broke the A&M school record. The time also ranks Robinson as the No. 3 all-time collegiate performer in the event and is the fourth-fastest time run by a collegiate athlete.
Aleksandr Solovev got the momentum rolling early in the day for the Maroon & White with a stellar display in his collegiate debut in the pole vault. The freshman cleared 5.56m/18-3 on his first attempt to take the event title, which enters him in the A&M all-time performers list at No. 2 standing behind only Aggie Olympian Jacob Wooten. Jack Mann III also opened his indoor pole vault campaign with a fifth-place result and a mark of 5.32m/17-5.5.
The men's 1,000m group of Cooper Cawthra, Caden Norris and Gilbert Rono etched their names in the record books in back-to-back-to-back positions, as they finished first, second and third, respectively. Cawthra topped the group thanks to a late kick, crossing the line in 2:22.57 which ranks No. 2 all-time for A&M, while Norris placed second in 2:23.03 for No. 3 all-time and Rono claimed third in 2:23.31 for No. 4 all-time.
A&M stayed dominant in the field, as John Baker won the men's long jump. He leapt 7.76m/25-5.5 which moved him up three spots in the Aggie history books to No. 7. The Maroon & White also added a second-place finish, as Khybah Dawson recorded a mark of 7.54m/24-9.
The Aggie men swept the podium spots in the triple jump, with Gavin Champ making his debut for the Maroon & White leading the way. The junior jumped a personal-best mark of 15.90m/52-2, which was good for No. 12 on the A&M all-time list, to win the event, while Jaydon Shield and Jaden Harris followed behind with marks of 15.13m/49-7.75 and 14.98m/49-1.75, respectively.
The women's 3,000m group gave the crowd a Maroon dominant show, as they secured the top-six spots on the leaderboard. Megan Roberts paced the group with a time of 9:38.24, she was followed by Maddie Livingston (9:53.49), Staucie Lees (10:12.30), Penelope Gracey (10:12.34), Maddie Peters (10:12.48) and Kristen McHugh (10:18.94).
Following the women's distance groups lead, the men racked up the top-four finishes in the 3,000m all with personal-best times. They were spearheaded by Zack Munger, as he crossed the line in 8:03.38 which ranks him third on the A&M all-time performers list. Munger was tailed by Cawthra (8:10.04), Jonathan Chung (8:16.52) and Jack Johnston (8:16.80).
Carter Bajoit set the tone early in the day for the Aggies, as he claimed the first event win of the season for the Maroon & White in the men's high jump. The senior leaped 2.10m/6-10.75 in his season opener to secure the win.
Kennedy Wade got her season started on the front foot in the women's 400m, as she cruised to a first-place finish in a time of 54.20. On the men's side Antonie Nortje made his A&M debut in the 400m, claiming the event win in a personal-best time of 46.12.
Adding another victory for the women's side was Maddie Jones in the 800m, finishing in 2:16.09. Avery Perkins also ran a competitive race to finish second in the event with a time of 2:16.16.
DeVante Mount climbed a spot in the history books in the men's 60m, as he logged a personal-best time of 6.67 in the final to land at No. 6 on the all-time list.
Capping off an impressive season opener for the Aggies was the men's 4x400m relay quartet of DeMarco Escobar, Cutler Zamzow, Robinson and Kimar Farquharson. The group fended off a competitive field to take the 12th and final event title of the day for the Maroon & White, as they crossed the line in 3:05.80.
