
No. 5 Football Defeats Florida, 34-17, to Remain Unbeaten

With the win, the Aggies improved to 6-0 on the year and 3-0 in SEC play, marking the second consecutive season in which they started conference play with three-straight wins.
Redshirt sophomore quarterback Marcel Reed threw for 234 yards and one touchdown on 16-of-26 passing, while adding 37 rushing yards with one score. Saturday's game marked the seventh contest in which in the Nashville, Tenn., native recorded one rush and one passing touchdown. Redshirt sophomore running back Rueben Owens II handled the bulk of the carries, finishing the game with 51 yards on 17 attempts with one score.
Junior linebacker Daymion Sanford anchored the defense for the second-straight week, tallying a team-best eight tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss, one pass breakup, one quarterback hurry and one forced fumble. Redshirt senior cornerback Tyreek Chappell, junior safety Marcus Ratcliffe and junior linebacker Taurean York each added five takedowns in the victory.
How It Happened
- Florida completed an eight-play, 75-yard game-opening drive after Amir Jackson scored on a 1-yard pass from DJ Lagway.
- Texas A&M quickly answered back 54 seconds later when Reed found paydirt from eight yards out. The two-play drive was highlighted by a Reed-to-Mario Craver 67-yard strike.
- Rookie running back Jamarion Morrow put the Aggies up 14-7 with 6:19 remaining in the first frame following a 22-yard touchdown reception from Reed.
- The Gators evened the score at 14 apiece after Lagway connected with Dallas Wilson on a six-yard touchdown pass.
- A&M regained the lead after Le'Veon Moss found the end zone on a 22-yard rush to open the second quarter.
- After the break, kicker Randy Bond converted a 26-yard field goal in the third period to extend the Aggies lead to 24-14.
- Florida kicker Trey Smack countered with a field goal of his own, a 45-yarder, on the ensuing drive, to cut into the advantage at 24-17.
- Owens II added to the Aggies lead with a 2-yard plunge into the end zone with just under five minutes on the clock to create a 31-17 gap between the teams.
- Bond then closed out the scoring with a 22-yard field goal to make it 34-17 with a little over one minute remaining in the game.
- Saturday's attendance was 105,086, marking the 10th consecutive 100,000-plus crowd at Kyle Field.
- Texas A&M's two-play, 75-yard game-opening scoring drive that ate up 54 seconds was the fastest since the NC State game in 2018 when the Aggies' opening drive of two plays, 71 yards happened in 32 seconds.
- The Maroon & White held Florida to 1-of-10 on third down and have limited their opposition to just 2-of-33 on third down in SEC play.
- Texas A&M racked up 417 yards of total offense, marking the fifth-straight game with 400-plus yards on offense.
- Redshirt senior defensive end Cashius Howell has now registered 1.0 sack in all three SEC games after recording one against the Gators. His 8.0 sacks on the season are the most since current Green Bay Packer Edgerrin Cooper's tallied 8.0 in 2023.
- Craver finished with 77 yards on two receptions to eclipse the 1,000 yard plateau for his career.
