Four Aggies Advance to ITA Texas Regional Semifinals

FORT WORTH – Mia Kupres of the Texas A&M women's tennis team posted another singles win Sunday at the ITA Regional Championships to earn a spot in the semifinals at the Friedman Tennis Center. In doubles action, senior duo Kupres/Daria Smetannikov as well as Anna Perelman/Violeta Martinez grabbed victories to move into the semifinals.
In singles action, No. 22 Kupres took down SMU's Sophie Llewellyn, 6-4, 6-2, to continue her dominance this week.
No. 38 Kupres/Smetannikov earned a hard-fought victory over Jemma Cave/Ksenia Mamontova of SFA, 8-7(2). While newcomers Perelman/Martinez stayed in the winners' column, taking down TCU's Cristina Ramos Sierra/Raquel Caballero Chica, 8-3.
No. 64 Smetannikov was also in action in singles play but was unable to pull out the victory despite a strong start, falling to Darya Schwartzman of Rice, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Singles semifinals are set for Monday at 11 a.m. as Kupres faces Caballero Chica of TCU.
The doubles semifinal round is also slated for Monday 8:30 a.m., as Perelman/Martinez are scheduled to face Yu-Chin Tsai/Victoria Gomez O'Hayon of TCU, and Kupres/Smetannikov square off against Na Dong/Zuzanna Kubacha.
