Hayes Named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M's Dayon Hayes was named SEC Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week on Monday for his strong performance in the No. 4 Aggies' 34-17 win over SEC foe Florida last week, the league office announced.
Hayes, a graduate student from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was a force on the front line of the Aggies' defense, which limited the Gators to 1-of-10 in third-down situations for the game and just 162 total yards on 44 plays (3.7 average) after the first quarter. Hayes' fourth-quarter strip sack and fumble recovery ended any hopes of a Gator rally. According to Pro Football Focus, Hayes had the team's top defensive grade at 91.0, and he also logged the top grade on pass rush snaps at 92.3.
Saturday's sack was the 16th of Hayes' 49-game career, which ranks No. 16 on the NCAA's active sack leaders list. It was the second sack for Hayes as an Aggie, after making 14.0 sacks in previous stops at Pittsburgh (12.0) and Colorado (2.0).
The 6-0 Aggies return to action with the team's first trip to Fayetteville, Arkansas in over a decade for a 2:30 p.m. matchup with the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday.
