Men's Golf Wins Steelwood Collegiate Invitational
Oct 26, 2025 | Men's Golf
LOXLEY, Ala. – The No. 24 Texas A&M men's golf team earned its second victory of the season, winning the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational.
The event was shortened to two rounds as inclement weather shut down action early Sunday. With the scores reverting to the tallies following the second round, the Aggies officially won the event by two strokes, but the Maroon & White built their advantage to eight strokes when play was halted with golfers having between six and eight holes to complete.
Texas A&M finished at 10-under 566, outdistancing Rutgers (-8) and West Virginia (-6).
Aaron Pounds and Wheaton Ennis climbed to second place, two strokes off the pace, with eight and six holes remaining, respectively, when the weather arrived. Officially Pounds staked claim to fourth place at 5-under 139 while Ennis was scored in sixth place at 4-under 140.
Jaime Montojo finished tied with nine golfers for 13th place at 1-under 143 with his rounds of 73 and 70 in Saturday's action. Kris Kuvaas was one stroke back in 23rd place, making both the first two loops in 72 strokes.
UP NEXT...
The Aggies return to action February 2-3 when they travel to Atlantic Beach, Florida, for the SeaBest Invitational.
TEXAS A&M QUOTES
Head Coach Brian Kortan
On winning the tournament...
"Everybody contributed for a couple days. It was a good positive note to end the fall on. We know we've got a lot of work to do and that's fine. That's what we show up to do. I think this tournament showed they're resilient. We didn't start well and we were getting our tail kicked early, but in the end of the second round and even today in the rain, they were playing like a really good golf team and they were playing to win a golf tournament. So I was really proud of them for their effort."
On the how well the Aggies played Sunday in the short time they were on the course....
"We flipped the script. The guys showed up and were ready to go this morning. I actually think there's a couple more scores that weren't entered. I think we got the lead to double digits and there was still six holes to play. But they played really well which was great to see."
On taking the momentum of the win into the long break...
"It's not so much momentum, because that's hard to carry for two-and-a-half months. It's more the gratification to know the hard work you're putting in is getting you somewhere. We're not a finished product and we know that and talk about it. But to know the effort that you're putting in is paying off."
On wishing the third round could be completed to see Aaron (Pounds) and Wheaton (Ennis) charge up the leaderboard...
"Of course that's something we would have liked to have seen. Aaron had just hit it inside five feet on a par 3 when they stopped, so I think he was right there with the lead. So you always want the guys to have an opportunity to finish it off. Those are some great experiences, and they don't come easily. And on top of that we had some others out there doing good things to put us in a position to win."
