No. 6 Football Improves to 5-0, Stifles Mississippi State 31-9

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – No. 6 Texas A&M earned its second conference win of the season and improved to 5-0 after handling Mississippi State, 31-9, in front of the fifth-largest crowd at Kyle Field on Saturday night.
Redshirt sophomore quarterback Marcel Reed racked up 210 total yards of offense to go along with two passing touchdowns and one rushing score. Junior wide receiver KC Concepcion hauled in both receiving scores for the Aggies and ended the night with four receptions for 61 yards. Sophomore wide receiver Mario Craver registered six catches for 80 yards and added 35 rushing yards with one score. Redshirt sophomore running back Rueben Owens II notched a career-best 142 rushing yards on 21 attempts.
On the defensive side, junior linebacker Daymion Sanford filled the stat sheet with nine tackles, including one sack and two tackles for loss. The Katy, Texas, native also tallied his first career interception. Redshirt senior defensive end Cashius Howell secured three sacks in the game, marking the second contest this season in which the Kansas City, Mo., product recorded 3.0-plus sacks. Junior linebacker Taurean York led all Aggie defenders with 10 tackles.

How It Happened
- Mississippi State scored the first points of the game in the opening quarter on a 24-yard field goal.
- In the closing minutes of the first half, Reed connected with Concepcion on a 34-yard passing touchdown for the Aggies' first score to make it 7-3 at the break.
- With 3:30 to go in the third quarter, Reed and Concepcion linked up again in the end zone following a 2-yard score to extend Texas A&M's edge to 14-3.
- The home side then capped a 10 play, 79-yard drive with a 7-yard rushing score from Reed to begin the fourth quarter.
- Following a Bulldog fumble, Craver rushed for 7 yards and found paydirt, upping the Aggies' advantage to 28-3.
- Mississippi State answered with its first touchdown of the game, after Blake Shapen found Brenen Thompson downfield for a 44-yard score. The Bulldogs did not convert the extra point attempt after a dropped snap to make the score 28-9.
- Randy Bond finished the scoring with a 27-yard field goal with less than five minutes to go in the game to seal the 22-point win.
Game Notes
- Saturday's crowd of 108,572 was a season high and the fifth-largest in stadium history. Texas A&M has drawn more than 100,000-plus fans in each of its four home games this season for an average of 106,142 fans per home contest. Texas A&M has a nine-game streak of 100,000-plus home crowds.
- Reed's two touchdown passes and one rushing score marks the 11th career time the Nashville native accounted for multiple scores in a game.
- Reed is now in sole possession of ninth place in program lore with 37 career touchdowns responsible for, surpassing Kyle Allen (2014-15).
- After his 3.0 sack performance, Howell became the first Aggie to record 3.0-plus sacks in multiple games in a single season since Von Miller in 2009 (2).
- The redshirt senior is the first SEC player to register 3.0-plus sacks in multiple games since Josh Allen (Kentucky) and Darrell Taylor (Tennessee) did so in 2018.
- York registered double-digit tackles for the second time this season and sixth time in his career.
- The Aggie defense held the Bulldogs to just 77 yards rushing, marking the third game this season in which they held their opponent to 100 yards or fewer.
