Women’s Basketball Defeats Tarleton State in Front of Elementary School Day Crowd

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M women's basketball team thrilled an Elementary School Day crowd of 7,851 with a 79-64 victory over the Tarleton State Texans Thursday inside Reed Arena.
In front of the third-largest Elementary School Day turnout in program history, the Maroon & White (2-0) pulled away from the Texans (2-2) in the second half, never trailing after halftime.
Salese Blow paced the Aggies with 18 points, shooting 7-of-11 (63.6%) from the field. Lauren Ware added 15 points, hitting 5-of-5 from the field with 11 points coming in the first half. Janae Kent tallied 12 points and five rebounds while Fatmata Janneh added eight points and 11 rebounds for Texas A&M. Ny'Ceara Pryor stuffed the stat sheet for the Maroon & White with 10 points, eight assists and four steals.
Pien Steenbergen sparked the offense with five points in the last two minutes of the first quarter, cutting A&M's deficit to 20-13 at the end of the period. Tarleton opened a 20-9 advantage with 1:44 on the clock, shooting 5-of-9 (55.6%) from the 3-point line.
The Aggies came back strong in the second quarter, closing an 11-point gap with a 16-4 run in the last seven minutes, giving the Maroon & White a 34-33 lead. Blow scored 10 points in the period, making 4-of-7 (57.1%) from the floor.
Early in the third quarter, Kent added to the lead, shooting 3-of-3 from the floor with one 3-pointer. A&M never trailed in the period, logging 24 points. Kent and Pryor scored the last eight points of the frame giving the Aggies their first double-digit edge, 58-48.
Jordan Webster sank a 3-pointer with 7:13 left in the contest, providing Texas A&M its largest lead of the game, 69-50. The Texans never threatened the remainder of the game.
The Aggies return to the court Sunday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m. at Kansas State for their first road test of the season.
