INDIANAPOLIS – Texas A&M Athletics registered an 86% Graduation Success Rate (GSR), matching the second highest in program history, the NCAA announced Wednesday.
Â
"We take great pride in our performance in the classroom and graduating our student-athletes," Director of Athletics Trev Alberts said. "A degree from Texas A&M University is invaluable, and I am thankful to our coaches and staff members for fostering an environment that prioritizes academics. I am very proud of everyone that contributed to this Graduation Success Rate and look forward to seeing us continue to build on this impressive milestone."
Â
The GSR is based off the graduation rate data for the 2015-16 to 2018-19 freshman cohorts for all NCAA Division I institutions. All colleges and universities are required by NCAA legislation and federal law (the Student Right-to-Know act from 1990) to report student graduation rates, and those institutions offering athletics aid are required to report for their student-athletes as well. The NCAA acquires student-athlete graduation rate data from the Department of Education's Integrated Post-Secondary Data System Graduation Rate Survey (IPEDS-GRS).
Â
"The latest Graduation Success Rate reflects Texas A&M Athletics' steadfast commitment to academic excellence," Executive Associate Athletics Director of Academics and Student-Athlete Engagement Dr. Dan Childs said. "This achievement speaks volumes about the dedication of our student-athletes and the exceptional support provided by the coaches, administration and Center for Student-Athlete Services. Graduation remains a cornerstone of our mission, and we will continue to set higher standards to ensure every Aggie student-athlete thrives in the classroom and beyond. We are proud of this milestone and remain focused on building an even stronger academic legacy."
Â
The department was led during the reporting period by eight programs that recorded 90%-or-better GSRs. Men's tennis, women's golf and volleyball turned in perfect GSRs.
