Nov 20, 2025 | Football
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Texas A&M defensive end Cashius Howell was named a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, the Charlotte Touchdown Club announced Thursday.
Cashius Howell has cemented himself as one of the premier pass rushers in college football this season. He paces the nation with an average of 1.15 sacks per game, and his 11.5 total sacks stand second nationally. The redshirt senior's production marks the most by an Aggie in a single season since Myles Garrett hit the same number in 2014. Howell has posted multiple sacks in three outings, highlighted by a career-best three against Utah State. He also sits fourth in the SEC and 15th nationally with 12.5 tackles for loss, and leads all defensive ends with six pass breakups.
The Kansas City, Missouri, product has collected SEC Defensive Line Player of the Week honors four times, setting a Texas A&M record and becoming only the sixth player in league history to earn the award four times since its introduction in 2004.
The winner will be named Monday, Dec. 8, at the Bronko Nagurski Awards Banquet in Charlotte, N.C. The Bronko Nagurski Trophy, created in 1993, is awarded to the best defensive player in college football and is presented by the Charlotte Touchdown Club. The award was established to complement the Heisman Trophy Award, which at the time had never been presented to a defensive player.
