Cross Country Closes 2025 Campaign at NCAA Championships
Nov 22, 2025 | Cross Country
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Texas A&M women's cross country team finished 31st and men's individual qualifier Jack Johnston placed 136th at the NCAA Championships Saturday morning at Gans Creek Cross Country Course.
"We had a lot of national meet rookies out there who got a taste of competing at the national championships," distance coach Wendel McRaven said. "Hopefully this is experience that will pay off both next year and this coming track season. Both the men and women have made a lot of progress over the last 12 months."
The No. 26 women's team closed out its historic 2025 campaign, marking the third qualification to the national meet and second in the last three years, while also being one of only seven teams from the SEC to qualify for the final competition on the calendar.
"Six weeks ago, it looked like a long shot to get this women's team to the national meet," McRaven continued. "They just kept getting better and better each week. They got better physically, but they also grew into a real team. It has been fun to watch that growth."
Leading the Maroon & White on the women's 6k course was Joyce Kemboi for the fourth time this season as she finished 77th and clocked in at 19:44.9. Debora Cherono was the second Aggie finisher in 83rd logging in a time of 19:50.4. They were followed by Megan Roberts in 170th (20:23.5), Sophia Bendet in 215th (20:46.9) and Ava Cole in 242nd (21:13.5).
Competing in the first individual championship of his career, Johnston finished 136th (29:51.2) on the 10k course. The men's team championship was won by Oklahoma State with 57 points, while the men's individual title was won by New Mexico's Habtom Samuel in 28:33.9.
