Nov 23, 2025 | Volleyball
SAVANNAH, Ga. – The No. 2 seed Texas A&M volleyball team swept No. 15 Vanderbilt to advance to the semifinals of the SEC Tournament Sunday evening at Enmarket Arena, 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 27-25).
The Aggies (23-3) ensured their spot in the SEC Tournament semifinals following a dominant showing in the quarterfinals versus the Commodores (9-18). The Maroon & White's 23rd win of the season marks the most since 2019 and was made possible behind the teams' fourth-straight game hitting over .300 percent as a unit. Maddie Waak orchestrated the group to a .345 clip offensively, while adding 40 assists which tied the program's postseason record for assists in a three-set match in the rally-scoring era.
The contest opened with back-and-forth scoring, as the teams were knotted on seven occasions before Texas A&M forged a three-point lead (12-9). Vanderbilt battled back to level the teams at 15, but a 6-1 run in favor of the Maroon & White forced the Commodores to burn a pair of timeouts, 21-16. The Aggies didn't let Vanderbilt get within striking distance, as Logan Lednicky struck her sixth kill of the frame to secure the opener, 25-21.
In similar fashion to the first, the teams kept it close in the early portion of the second set as they were tied, 6-6. The Commodores created a two-point gap (13-11), but it was instantly answered by a 4-1 streak that had the Aggies up one at the media break, 15-14. Texas A&M's offense kept Vanderbilt at bay, tacking on another point to its lead courtesy of a Commodore error, three kills and an ace from Kyndal Stowers (19-17). The onslaught continued behind another four Aggie kills, as the advantage was pushed to four prompting Vanderbilt to take a break (23-19). Leaving nothing the chance, kills from Emily Hellmuth and Stowers ensured a two-set lead in the match (25-21).
Remaining the trend of the contest, both programs traded blows through the opening 20 points (10-10). Texas A&M was once again the team to break away, ripping off a 5-2 streak to lead by three at the midway points (15-12). The gap extended to five late (20-15), but Vanderbilt didn't back down countering with a 9-4 streak to send the game to extras (24-24). The Commodores truck first and held set point, but answering the call for the final time in the quarterfinal were the Aggies who scored three-straight to book their ticket to the semifinals (27-25).
