BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M women's tennis team went 3-0 on day one of the ITA Central Sectional Tournament, Thursday at Mitchell Tennis Center.

In doubles, No. 38 Mia Kupres/Daria Smetannikov took down No. 57 Akari Matsuno/Rylie Hanford of Notre Dame, 6-1, 7-5, to move onto the quarterfinals.

In singles, transfer Violeta Martinez defeated McKenna Schaefbauer in dominating fashion, 6-4, 6-1, with No. 64 Smetannikov winning a hard-fought match against No. 107 Reese Miller of Michigan, 6-4, 7-5. With the wins, Martinez and Smetannikov move into the Round of 16.

On Friday, Kupres/Smetannikov plays No. 60 Emma Rizzetto/Conley Raidt of Nebraska at 10 a.m.

Martinez plays No. 70 Oyinlomo Quadre of Oklahoma, while Smetannikov faces the winner of Chloe Noel of OU or Hailey Murphy of Texas Tech.
