Dec 12, 2025 | Football
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Texas A&M defensive end Cashius Howell was named to the Walter Camp All-America First Team on Friday evening as part of the ESPN College Football Awards Show.
Howell is the first Aggie to earn first team recognition since two-time recipient Myles Garrett in 2015 and 2016. The 2025 SEC Defensive Player of the Year has cemented himself as one of the premier pass rushers in college football, leading the league and ranking fourth nationally with 11.5 sacks. The redshirt senior's production marks the most by an Aggie in a single season since Garrett hit the same number in 2014. Additionally, he has posted multiple sacks in three games, highlighted by a career-best 3.0-sack performance against Utah State. Howell added six pass breakups as well, the second-most nationally among defensive ends, and sits fourth in the SEC and 20th nationally with 14.0 tackles for loss.
The Kansas City, Missouri, product collected SEC Defensive Line Player of the Week honors four times, setting a Texas A&M record and becoming only the sixth player in league history to earn the award four times since its introduction in 2004. Howell was also named a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Lombardi Trophy and Chuck Bednarik Award.
Considered the "Father of American Football," Walter Camp introduced the play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side in 1880. Nine years later, Mr. Camp, then the Yale University head coach, selected the first-ever college football All-America team.
The Walter Camp Football Foundation, a New Haven-based all-volunteer group, was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All America team. Founded in 1997, the NCFAA includes college football's most prestigious awards and its 25 awards have honored more than 950 recipients dating back to 1935.
No. 7-seed Texas A&M hosts No. 10 Miami in the first round of the College Football Playoff at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday, Dec. 20 at Kyle Field on ABC.
