Get to Know: Kelsey Mathis

Sophomore outfielder Kelsey Mathis returned to play for the Aggies in 2025. The Waco native appeared in 42 games, batting .391 with a .500 on-base percentage while serving as Texas A&M's go-to pinch runner.
Get to know one of the returning Aggies below..
Being a Waco native, what is it like to play close to home?
"It's really great having my family and other people who support me close by. They can drive down and be in the crowd watching me."
What do you enjoy the most about Aggieland?
"The culture is an amazing thing to experience. Having so many fans who love to come watch us and enjoy our games as much as we enjoy playing them is a great thing to be a part of."
With your brother playing baseball at Texas, are there any family feuds going on? Which side are your parents on?
"My dad was a diehard Texas fan when my brother went there, so I had to be a part of it a little bit. When I signed with A&M, I knew it would be hard to get him to switch sides, so I started sneaking Aggie gear into gifts. Now he's flipped the switch, but my parents meet in the middle since my brother is still a die hard Texas fan."
What made you commit to Texas A&M?
"The culture, how close it is to home and the coaches. I knew I wanted to be coached by someone who would push me and make me a better player, and that's what I got."
What is your major and what do you plan to do with it?
"My major is political science. I'm not too sure what I want to do with it, but originally I wanted to be a crime scene investigator. Now I'm leaning more toward CPS. It's hard, but I want to help kids and families."
Who has been a role model to you growing up?
"My brother, since he was always playing baseball and I was always at his games. Watching him play at the collegiate level was a great experience and pushed me to want to play at a higher level."
What part of your game would you say is most valuable to this team?
"My defense, since we lost great players in the outfield. I knew I was stepping into a big role, taking the spot of Allie Enright. It's been hard stepping up as a sophomore, but I was ready for the challenge."
What is your favorite part about game days?
"Enjoying my time and getting ready with the team, sitting in the locker room and listening to music beforehand."
Do you have any pregame rituals?
"I need to have some kind of energy drink and do my hair before my makeup."
What is a softball pet peeve?
"Kneevage and the visor above the hair."
If you could describe this team in one word, what would it be and why?
"Underdog, since we're brand new and starting over. We didn't have the fall ball we wanted, but the spring is going to be a really good season."
