Dec 04, 2025 | Football
BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M's Rueben Owens II was named to the SEC Community Service team for football for the 2025 season, the league office announced on Thursday.
The SEC names a Community Service Team for each of its 22-league sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community through superior service efforts.
Owens, a redshirt sophomore running back, has given back to the community in a variety of ways. He and his teammates participated in The Big Event, which is the largest one-day, student-run service project in the nation, in collaboration with Twin City Mission. Founded in 1963, Twin City Mission has been addressing homelessness; violence and abuse; family conflict; youth in crisis; life skills deficiencies; and poverty in the Brazos Valley for over 50 years.
The El Campo, Texas, native took part in the Texas A&M football team's charity softball game that partnered with The REACH Project and the Twin City Mission's Second Chance Resale. Additionally, he volunteered with the Bryan ISD AlphaBEST program, where he helped lead enrichment activities for young people in the after-school program, and with the NFL Flag Aggieland youth football league.
Owens leads the 11-1 Texas A&M football team with 618 rushing yards and has scored five touchdowns in 2025. For his career, he has gained 100-plus yards in three games and recently surpassed the 1,000-yard plateau in rushing yards.
