DALLAS – Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko was named a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) announced Tuesday.
Elko has led the Aggies to their first College Football Playoff berth with an 11-1 record and a nation-leading three road victories against Associated Press Top 25 teams. Texas A&M also boasts a 7-0 ledger at Kyle Field in 2025 and set a single-season home attendance record by averaging 106,159 fans.
The Aggies rank No. 1 nationally in third down defense (.227) and in total sacks (41). Offensively, Texas A&M allows the fewest tackles for loss per game at 2.83 and is 14th in scoring offense at 36.3 points per game and 20th in total offense at 454.4 yards per game.
In two seasons under Elko, Texas A&M has compiled a 19-6 overall mark, including a 12-4 record in conference play and a 12-2 worksheet at Kyle Field.
The award honors regular season performance, including conference championship games. The 2025 recipient will be announced on Tuesday, Dec. 16. The official presentation will be at a reception Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026, in Miami, the site of the CFP National Championship.
The FWAA has presented a coaching award since the 1957 season when Ohio State's Woody Hayes was named the first recipient. In 1997, the FWAA coaching award was named after the late Robinson, a coaching legend at Grambling State University for 55 seasons.
