No. 18 Aggies In Second Heading into Final Round
Feb 17, 2025 | Women's Golf
MELBOURNE, Fla. – The No. 18 Texas A&M women's golf team jumped one spot on Monday at the Moon Golf Invitational into second place after shooting an even-par 288 at the Suntree Country Club.
"We adjusted very well to the changes in the conditions that made this play like an entirely new golf course," Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "It's easy to see from the scores that the golf course is still winning, but we stayed in control of our round for the most part of today. Everything our young ladies have been doing at home has put us in position to compete for a title tomorrow."
The Aggies were led by Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio and Lauren Nguyen who both shot 2-under 70 through the windy conditions in the second round. Fernández García-Poggio was tied for third on the individual leaderboard, while Nguyen climbed 21 spots into a tie for eighth.
No. 7 Florida State (-3) built a seven-stroke advantage over Texas A&M (+4) prior to Tuesday's final round. No. 4 South Carolina (+6), No. 12 Wake Forest (+6) and No. 16 Ole Miss (+11) rounded out the top five.
Vanessa Borovilos also had a stellar round, jumping 26 spots from Sunday with a share of 21st. Borovilos fired a 1-under 71. Mia Nixon and Kynadie Adams were holding onto a piece of 46th and 52nd, respectively.
Lottie Woad of Florida State led Fernández García-Poggio by two strokes going into the third round. Woad is the No. 1 amateur in the world while Fernández García-Poggio is ranked No. 30.
