Friday's series opener marks the first meeting all-time between the Aggies (3-0) and Mustangs (1-3). Dating back to last season, the Maroon & White are 5-0 against first-time opponents. Against programs from California, Texas A&M is 44-27 all-time.
For the second straight week, the Aggies will send the left-handed trio of Ryan Prager, Justin Lamkin and Myles Patton to the mound. The rotation combined for a 2.57 ERA in 14 innings of work to go along with 25 strikeouts during Opening Weekend.
Over his last 11 starts in front of the Olsen Field faithful, Prager has been brilliant. The Maroon & White ace holds a 1.87 ERA to go along with 83 strikeouts to 12 walks during that stretch. Entering the weekend, Prager sits 19 strikeouts away from becoming the 21st player in program history to reach 200 in his career.
Left-handed slugger Jace LaViolette powers the offensive attack for Ol' Sarge's charges as the junior belted three homers and drove in seven runs on Opening Weekend. The junior's three long balls extended his career total to 53 as he sits four away from breaking Daylan Holt's program record of 56.
Freshman Terrence Kiel II impressed in his Aggie debut, finishing the weekend 4-for-8 at the plate with three RBI, three runs scored and three walks. The rookie's strong performance earned him SEC Freshman of the Week honors.
The Aggies remained at No. 1 in all five major polls after completing a series sweep of Elon in front of a record Opening Weekend crowd of 20,606. With the sweep, the Maroon & White are off to their fourth straight 3-0 start and 10th in the last 11 seasons.
