BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 1 Texas A&M baseball team dropped the series finale against Cal Poly, 3-2, Sunday afternoon from Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
The Aggies (5-1) carried a 2-0 lead into the ninth before the Mustangs (2-5) tied the game with a two-run home run to left. The ensuing batter reached on an error, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and third via a wild pitch before scoring on a fielder's choice to give Cal Poly the 3-2 advantage.
In the bottom half of the frame, the Maroon & White went down in order as they dropped their first contest of the season.
Texas A&M's two runs on the afternoon came in the third as Hayden Schott opened the scoring with an RBI single and Gavin Kash followed with an RBI groundout.
Despite earning a no-decision, Myles Patton was brilliant on the mound as the junior delivered seven shutout innings to go along with eight strikeouts. Through two starts this season, Patton has allowed one run over 12 innings of work and punched out 16 batters.
