Feb 24, 2025 | Women's Golf
HUMBLE, Texas – The No. 17 Texas A&M Women's Golf Team tied the lowest round in program history in the second round of the Chevron Collegiate at the Golf Club of Houston Monday with a 16-under 272 and was in sole possession of first place after 36 holes.
"Tomorrow, we have to go out like the scoreboard is 0-0," Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "The course will play totally different with the wind coming from a different direction. I am proud of our team. They put themselves into a position to learn more about themselves. Vanessa was locked in and focused. She wasn't even in danger of making a bogey in the first round. Cata was incredible as well. Those two were in complete control and the rest of the team played great too. I am glad to be in the fight with them tomorrow."
The Aggies played two rounds on Monday and totaled a 23-under 553 thru two rounds, which was tied for the second lowest 36-hole score in program history. On top of the historic team effort, freshman Vanessa Borovilos fired a 10-under 134 and was at the top of the player leaderboard heading into the final day.
Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio also turned in an incredible two rounds at 8-under 136, helping her hold onto a share of second. The Madrid, Spain, native tore up the second round, firing a team-low 6-under 66. Borovilos and Fernández García-Poggio's 36-hole scores were second and tied for eighth all-time at Texas A&M, respectively.
Texas A&M was out in front of No. 16 TCU (-19) by four strokes. Maryland (-16), No. 1 Arkansas (-12) and Mississippi State (-12) rounded out the top five.
Mia Nixon and Lauren Nguyen both shot even par through 36 and tied for 36th. Nixon turned in a stellar 4-under 68 in round two to surge up the leaderboard. Kynadie Adams rounded out the lineup with a piece of 44th.
