Lessentine Tosses Gem in Debut, Aggies Win Fifth Straight Game
Feb 08, 2025 | Softball
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – True freshman Sydney Lessentine was lights out in her first career start striking out nine and going the distance in a 1-0 win over ACU, while Texas A&M run-ruled Villanova, 8-0, Saturday night at Davis Diamond.
After walking a pair in the first two innings, Lessentine settled down retiring 12 straight, including nine strikeouts. The rookie kept the Wildcats hitless for 6.2 innings to begin the game, while ACU (0-5) failed to record an extra base hit on the evening. Lessentine's nine punchies are the most in an Aggie freshman debut since Samantha Show sat down 15 in 2016.
The Aggies lone run came courtesy of freshman KK Dement leading off the fourth with a double down the left field line, followed by fellow freshman Frankie Vrazel with an RBI double to left center to score Dement.
After a quiet start to the night cap, Texas A&M (5-0) exploded for six runs on five hits in the third inning before adding a pair in the fourth to enter run-rule territory. Freshman Kate Munnerlyn entered the top of the fifth and allowed a single before sitting the next three Villanova (2-3) batters down in order to end the game.
