Adams Leads Aggies on First Day of Clover Cup

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The No. 16 Texas A&M women's golf team was led by Kynadie Adams who carded a 3-under 67 on the par-70 Wigwam Resort golf course Monday to push the Aggies into second as a team after one round.
"There was a lot of good out there today, but we just need to clean a few things up," Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "There are some pieces of our game that are well within our control that we can be better at the rest of the week. Today was another step forward for Kynadie. She has looked really good in practice and got a birdie on the last hole to make her round look really good. We have seen this coming from her for quite some time."
The Aggies shot 2-under 278 as a team and were four shots behind No. 8 Arizona State (-6) for the top spot on the team leaderboard. Indiana (E), Notre Dame (+2) and Clemson (+2) rounded out the top five. Texas A&M picked up four counting strokes on No. 18 before heading into the clubhouse.
Adams was tied for first after 18 holes with Arizona State's Beth Coulter and Indiana's Maddie May. Adams nailed birdies on Nos. 1, 7, 14 and 18 with just one bogey on the scorecard.
Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio was tied for fourth at 2-under 68 with another clean round to compliment Adams' day with one bogey as well.
Freshman Vanessa Borovilos started the day with a birdie and five straight pars before bogeying No. 7, snapping her 80-hole streak without a bogey. Borovilos was one-over par heading into 18 but produced a clutch eagle that brought her down to 1-under 69 and gave her a share of ninth.
Sky Sudberry was the final counting score for the Maroon & White at 4-over 74. Sudberry was tied for 31st. Lauren Nguyen rounded out the starters tied for 36th and Mia Nixon, competing as an individual, held onto a piece of 42nd.
The Aggies tee off at 11:06 a.m. to begin the second round on Tuesday. Live stats can be found here.
