Aggies Walk-Off Gators, 3-2, to Open SEC Play in Top 5 Battle
Mar 07, 2025 | Softball
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – In a battle between top five heavyweights, the No. 4 Texas A&M softball team claimed round one against No. 4 Florida with a walk-off win, 3-2, to open SEC play Friday night at Davis Diamond.
As Texas A&M (21-2, 1-0 SEC) faced two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Kennedy Powell singled to center field and Mac Barbara followed with a bloop single to left. Chaos ensued as Powell raced to third beating the throw, while Barbara rounded first that forced the third baseman to make an errant throw into shallow right field. Powell quickly got to her feet and sped home to beat the throw for the winning run.
The Maroon & White broke the ice in the second inning after Mya Perez blasted a first pitch 264-foot shot to center field to lead 1-0. Florida (24-2, 0-2 SEC) and A&M exchanged a pair of scoreless innings before a Gator solo shot evened the score in the top of the fifth. With the bases loaded and one out, Perez sent a long shot that looked to be a grand slam before the Gator center fielder scaled the wall bringing it back in play. Kramer Eschete scored on the sac fly and Koko Wooley was thrown out at home to complete the 8-6-2 double play as the Aggies led 2-1 after the fifth.
For the second time in as many innings, the Gators knotted things up with a solo shot to center field before Emiley Kennedy forced a ground out and strikeout to end the top of the sixth. After consecutive groundouts in the final frame, Florida found themselves with a runner in scoring position after consecutive walks before a one-pitch fly out to right field ended the threat.
Kennedy moved to 6-2 on the season, while striking out two batters and allowing two runs on four hits with six walks.
