Coach's Quotes
Head coach Steve Denton on opening strong in doubles play…
"That was a good team win for us. Florida is a very good team, and our guys competed very well. I was pleased about the doubles point; we played well there. We had a lot of energy, and we did a good job playing fundamental doubles. We used the energy from the crowd to get off to a good lead there."
Denton on the mental state in singles…
"In singles, our guys carried over that momentum. We lost two first sets and our guys were good at staying mentally tough throughout the match. We turned those matches in our favor through mental toughness and making good decisions out there. They were not getting discouraged and continued to play every point."
Denton on the momentum moving forward…
"We carried over the momentum that started with Oklahoma. Coming back home, we had very good effort against a good Auburn team. We carried that momentum forward today. I am excited about the direction we're going in and we have some tough matches ahead. The team needs to keep focusing on each match that's in front of us and not get ahead of themselves."
Denton on Magadan's super tiebreaker win…
"Sometimes things aren't going your way, or you're playing against someone good. Alan did a good job of staying mentally on course. I said to him after the match that I was proud of him because sometimes you win by playing well, while other times you must grind it out. That was a mental match, and he was able to stay positive and just played the next point and stayed in the present. By doing that he was able to grind out the win."
